August Monthly Minute: Summer of Service 2020
This summer, we invested a significant amount of our resources into our core mission to support and partner with four churches in Philadelphia. We say "church partnership" a lot here at TPP, but what does it mean, and why is it so important? Why does TPP exist to be in partnership with the local church? In Matthew 9:37, Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." TPP believes the local church needs hands and feet to labor in the work of the Lord to bring spiritual and physical renewal to those in and outside the church. Through the partnership with the local church, TPP provides support staff, some full-time, and others part-time, to labor with the local church in Philadelphia.
During our Summer of Service, TPP, alongside the local church staff, accomplished a lot of physical works this summer. We installed floors, built a kitchenette, put up fencing, created a thrift store, and revitalized a worship space. There were even greater works that only images can capture. There was joy through kids' laughter and listening to story hour in the courtyard. Neighbors came out of their homes and walked over to the local church for water ice and pretzels on a hot summer evening. There were hundreds of cars lined up for the weekly food distribution that served 400 families twice a week. A footpath formed as our yellow shirts joined with the local pastor and staff to walk the neighborhood for 3 hours a week, praying for the expressed and silent needs of our communities.
